UWS has been an active partner of the LiLa summer school series (started 2018) with the UWS contact person DA Kathryn Burnett and their MA students from Creative Media Practice programme.
Lila School is organised under UArctic's Thematic Network on Arctic Sustainable Arts and Design and brings annually PhD and Ma students from the fields of art education, general teacher education, fine arts, creative practice and clothing design together to investigate the phenomena related to landscapes.
The development of Lila's multidisciplinary educational and scientific collaboration has aimed to meet the emerging challenges related to the environment, population and economic life in the Arctic and near Arctic regions. The core of Lila is to facilitate a space for students and scholars to investigate the various sociocultural and more-than-human landscapes through sustainable approaches with scientific and practical interventions and also benefit the communities living in the region. The multidisciplinary and art-based projects (like Parpala's Poroissa) initiated during each school seek to utilise both traditional forms and phenomena of culture, as well as current practices and innovations.
