Nord University High North Center for Business and Governance has opened nominations for the High North Hero Award, created to honor a person or an organization that has contributed to highlighting the importance of the Arctic.  The deadline for nominations is February 15, 2019.

ERC Consolidator Grants are designed to support excellent Principal Investigators at the career stage at which they may still be consolidating their own independent research team or programme. Applicant Principal Investigators must demonstrate the ground-breaking nature, ambition and feasibility of their scientific proposal.


The Arctic Science Fellowship Program offers early career researchers from Arctic countries and researchers of Arctic indigenous heritage with an opportunity to cooperate with Korean Polar Research Institute (KOPRI) scientists for a duration of up to 3 months.  The deadline to apply is February 28, 2019.

The University of Oulu is continuing to build on their well-established track-record of being leaders in Arctic research with introduction of their new multidisciplinary Arctic Interactions (ArcI) research programme.   



Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) Community Investment Program will be providing over $1 million to projects doing good things for and through the Canadian internet.  The application deadline is February 28, 2019.

The summer school at Hokkaido University is for advanced level undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at the University of Lapland, University of Oulu and University of Helsinki. Approximately 15 students will be selected for the scholarship. Application deadline is February 28, 2019.

Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI) is now accepting applications for their Asian Polar Science Fellowship Program.  The Asian Polar Science Fellowship Program consists of two categories: the Institute Visiting Program and the Field Research Program.  The deadline to apply is February 28, 2019.


The United Nations declared 2019 The International Year of Indigenous Languages in order to raise awareness of them, not only to benefit the people who speak these languages, but also for others to appreciate the important contribution they make to our world´s rich cultural diversity. 

The third and final intern from Labrador Institute’s International Indigenous Intern program has joined the UArctic International Secretariat.  Michelle Saunders has started her internship at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland which will continue for the next 2 months.

The Arctic Circle will hold a Forum May 10-11 in Shanghai under the title "China and the Arctic," hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China. Deadline for the proposals is March 1.
