President of the Saami Council Åsa Larsson Blind launched the “Sámi Arctic Strategy” last week in Umeå at the EU Arctic Forum (Oct 3-4), which discussed how the Indigenous Knowledge and participation could be increased in research and policy making.

The IASC Medal is awarded in recognition of exceptional and sustained contributions to the understanding of the Arctic. A maximum of one award is made each year, assuming that there is a nominee of appropriate quality.

The EU reiterated its commitment to helping the Arctic adapt to climate change, protect the environment and develop its economy, by investing in research and development, protecting local ecosystems, and building better infrastructure to connect the region to the mainland.

The annual High North Dialogue conference gathers experts and stakeholders from a range of sectors with a focus on business development and economic growth in the High North. It provides a platform to interact with young academics and professionals with an interest in the Arctic.

"Sámi Educational History in a Comparative International Perspective" establishes an overview of Sámi education in a historical and internationally comparative perspective and examines indigenous educational history around the world, ranging from Asia to Oceania to Sápmi and the Americas.


The purpose of the panel is to bring together top policymakers (Governors of the Russian Arctic regions) and representatives of science and expert community to discuss current and future socioeconomic complexity and transformation in the rapidly changing Russian Arctic.
