The Department of Physics and Technology announces two vacant PhD Candidate positions in the area of Arctic Remote Sensing. The research themes are: “Multi-Sensor, Multi-Scale Integrated Remote Sensing for Arctic Sea Ice monitoring” and “Remote Sensing of Extreme Ocean Events (Polar Lows)”. Application deadline is September 10.

It's only a few days until UArctic Congress 2018, where over 600 participants from nearly 30 countries are gathering together to discuss topical Arctic issues and network with colleagues. The Congress will take place in Oulu and Helsinki, Finland on September 3-7, 2018.

Culturologists from the Humanitarian Institute of the Siberian Federal University conducted linguistic field research in the settlements of the Evenki municipal district (Krasnoyarsk region, Russia) within the framework of the project "Revival of the Evenki Language".

Abstract submission is now open for the YOPP Arctic Science Workshop to be held from 14 to 16 January in Finland, Helsinki.

The objective of the collaboration between five Arctic universities—The Arctic5 —is to build a collaboration model for teacher education and to develop a broad common educational offering. The long-term objective of the collaboration efforts is to develop a Nordic Master’s Degree Programme for teacher education.

Living in the Landscape: Environmental Humanities, Arts and Education for Sustainability in the North (LiLa) summer school was organized under the Thematic Network on Sustainable Arts and Design in May 2018. The summer school took place in the Komi villages of Kozlovka, Onezhia and Otla located along the Vym river.

UArctic Congress 2018 side event "Arctic and Education: EU Climate Diplomacy Week" discusses the challenges and perspectives of education in the Arctic in the climate change context. Conference is held on the 6th of September in Helsinki. The event is free but requires registration. 

Together with the Korea Maritime Institute, the Korea Polar Research Institute and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, the Arctic Circle will co-host a Forum December 7-8 in Seoul, Korea.
