The Calotte Academy 2016 ‘Resilience related to Sustainable Development in Globalization’ will be organized from 30 May to 5 June, 2016 in Rovaniemi and Inari, Finland; Apatity and Murmansk, Russia; Kirkenes and Neiden, Norway. Abstract submission and PhD candidate funding application deadline is March 14, 2016.


Are there alternative solutions for the management of reindeer husbandry in Finnmark, Norway? On February 9, 2016 a seminar is held Kautokeino, Norway in connection with the launch of a new textbook on Sami reindeer husbandry in Finnmark.



During the 15-day course (1-15 June 2016) by University of Alaska Fairbanks, students will learn about Arctic vegetation, soils, landforms, permafrost, geology, wildlife and land-use along the incredible research transect from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay, traversing boreal forest, alpine, and Arctic biomes. Apply by March 15, 2016.



The University of Iceland offers a world-class, intensive multidisciplinary two-year Master of Science program on Arctic and Sub-Arctic Marine Science and Fisheries, with an emphasis on marine ecology and fisheries. The application period opens March 1, 2016, and studies begin in January 2017.

The 15th Ocean Innovation conference will take place in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada, October 4-5, 2016. Hosted by the Fisheries and Marine Institute, of Memorial University of Newfoundland, this year's event is entitled Adapting to a Changing Circumpolar North: Traditional & New Ocean Technologies

The University of the Arctic Thematic Network Arctic Sustainable Arts and Design (ASAD) met in early November 2015 in Anchorage, Alaska. The network's annual symposium consists of a congress, exhibition and workshops. The themes of the meeting this year were culture, community and communication.
