The Northern Liaison Officer at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, Sheila Downer received the appointment during the recent UArctic Board of Governors meeting in Rovaniemi, Finland.

UArctic brought its personnel from different offices for the meeting, held on November 29-30 in Pyhä, Finland.

The North-Eastern Federal University held a meeting of the UArctic thematic networks leaders from educational centers in the USA, Japan, Finland, Norway and Russia in November 2015.

UArctic Days aim to promote University of the Arctic for its member organisations in order to encourage students and faculty to participate in research and education activities. During November 2015, UArctic Road Trip visited the Universities of Tampere and Helsinki, Finland.

Gunhild Hoogensen Gjørv, author and executive editor of the publication, Professor of the UiT- Arctic University of Norway, presented a book “Environmental and Human Security in the Arctic” at NEFU Scientific Library.

The Arctic University of Norway (UiT) is hosting UNFCCC COP21 Side Event, together with the Nordic partners from Aarhus University, Umeå University, Univesity of Iceland and University of Lapland.

Brian Rogers, chancellor emeritus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, was today re-appointed as chair of UArctic's Board during their meetings in Rovaniemi, Finland. Rogers began as his first term as a Board member in 2009, and became chair during his second term in 2012. He will conclude his final term as chair in 2018.

In November 2015, the official website of the Union of Reindeer Herders (Nenets Autonomous District (NAD), Russia) was launched and is going to become a informational basis for reindeer husbandry in the District.

The UArctic Thematic Network on Arctic Law has established a new sub-group: Philosophy of Law in the Arctic. The sub-group brings together Arctic philosophers of law and scholars interested in legal philosophy in the Arctic. The sub-group is led by Dr. Dawid Bunikowski, University of Eastern Finland.

The Board of Governors of the University of the Arctic (UArctic) convene for their biannual meeting in conjunction with the “In the Spirit of the Rovaniemi Process” on November 23-26, 2015 in Rovaniemi, Finland.

With the Fulbright Specialist Program, Finnish institutions have the opportunity to invite a Specialist from the United States for a project visit of 2-6 weeks. The second application round for the academic year 2015-2016 ends on December 2, 2015.

International Symposium on Emerging Arctic Legal Orders in Science,Environment and the Ocean will be organised 18-19 December 2015, at Kobe University, Japan. Pre-registration is open until 7 December 2015.
